Few days ago I posted on my Facebook about the awesome service received from the American Express team & I’ve had an influx of messages for more info about the Free Flight so here is all the extra info.
I’ve been a member of Amex since 2011 and I originally only signed up to get their Platinum Edge Credit Card with Free return flight. Since then every time I’ve dealt with their customer service team has been nothing short of amazing.
What makes American Express so good?!
In the last 2 years, Amex team have now refunded me $460 + $350 of Interest Charges that that I didn’t even realize I had been charged until I saw it months later when going through Credit card transactions for my Tax return.
But that’s just me being retarded, why would an average person want their credit card?
1. FREE Return Domestic flight every year (With Platinum Edge Credit Card) including 23Kg Baggage and $0 booking fees. Few times I’ve booked this flight the current RRP was well over $800. I’ve just booked one few days ago for Anna which was $650 on the Virgin website. Plus additional 15,000 Membership Rewards points when using an existing member’s referral link. The Membership rewards points can be used to offset charges off your credit card bill or transfer to 11 different Airline programs – Asia Miles offering best rewards program known to mankind (see further below).
2. FREE Flight From Sydney – Los Angeles or New York (With American Express Platinum Card and 90,000 bonus points) + Unlimited access to 800 Airport VIP Lounges in 100 countries around the world.
3. Amex Supports Small Business – Shopping at Small Businesses that Accept AMEX will earn you 10 lots of $10 credits on your statement.
4. Member Offers & Places – Different offers for $50-$200 Cashback for shopping at various merchants online or retail. These change monthly (see screenshot below)
5. They reward member loyalty big time! – Earn up to an additional 200,000 Membership rewards points by referring American Express credit cards, with free flight every year who wouldn’t want it right! :)
6. Access to Asia Miles frequent flyer program. Hands down best conversion rates for frequent flyer points transfer, see examples below. Asia Miles is the rewards program of Cathay Pacific (#1 Airline in the world) but using Asia Miles you can book flights on the following partner Airlines Aer Lingus ׀ Air China ׀ Alaska Airlines ׀ American Airlines ׀ British Airways ׀ China Eastern Airlines ׀ Finnair ׀ Iberia ׀ Japan Airlines ׀ Jet Airways ׀ LAN ׀ Malév Duna ׀ Mexicana Airlines ׀ Qantas ׀ Royal Jordanian ׀ Vietnam Airlines. As a comparison, same Qantas flight from Sydney to Los Angeles using Qantas Frequent Flyer Points vs Asia Miles Frequent flyer points requires 30% less membership points using Asia Miles. (See below)
Which AMEX card should you get?
Personally I prefer the Amex Platinum Edge card as the annual fee is only $195 per year and the Complimentary Domestic flight is worth at least double that if not triple and quadruple depending on which flight you book. Click on the image below for full details or to grab this card. – SPEND $550 in first 2 Months and the $195 fee will be refunded to you so $0 for first year!
Want the best of the best?
If you are planning to be flying Overseas and want the extra frequent flyer points, go for the Amex Platinum Card but it does have a higher annual fee. You could use this card for the first year then swap to the Platinum Edge to avoid paying the fee the second year. Click the image below for full details.
